Western Holandes Cays, San Blas Islands

Waisaladup and Acuakargana are two small islands at the western end of the Holandes Cays which are joined together by a submerged coral shelf. The horseshoe shaped anchorage in between provides great protection from 3 directions. The two islands are picture perfect, with white sand beaches and are covered by coconut trees. Waisaladup has a small village at the SE end and there are trails criscrossing the island. What was very interesting was everyone from the village kept asking for magazines! I have no idea why, other than I guess that they can look at the pictures. Ken gave them some old Sail magazines.

The reefs surrounding the anchorage provided some of the best snorkeling yet. Very clear, calm water with lots of fish, and large fish in the deeper sections of the reef. Bonnie spotted a Spanish lobster (no spiney antennas) and very dumb, which I caught. Stupid me I let it go and then later went to the village and bought lobster for $4/lb. Letting it go cost me a good $10, but the ones we bought were great. This is a great anchorage.
