Ahoy from Los Frailes, Mexico!
We finally got out of Cabo this morning after picking up fuel. I had checked out all of the fuel prices while in the dinghy and I thought that I was getting the best price at IGY. However, I forgot to take in to account that they charge your credit card in USD and price the fuel in pesos. They had the best price per peso, but the worst conversion factor, so they actually ended up being the most expensive. Live and learn!
We motored all of the way to Los Frailes with no wind. On our way here we passed through an amazing pod of hundreds of feeding dolphins. The pod was huge...maybe 1/4 of a mile in diameter. There were dolphins everywhere and the bow was teaming with them riding the bow wave and jumping out of the water. I've never seen so many at once and it was quite a site to be seen.
We did try throwing out a fishing line on the way here, but didn't catch anything. I'm not terribly surprised as we're not exactly what one would call good fishermen. Personally I think that we need a book titled "Deep Sea Fishing for Dummies!" Sue's idea of fishing to to call the fishermen and buy some fillets. We're actually anchored next to a small fishing village, so maybe one of them will swing by.
Los Frailes is more or less just a stop along the way to La Paz. There's a hard coral reef system just around the point from here named the Cabo Pulmo Reef which is a National Marine Park. It's the only hard coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. I'd really like to dive on it, but I don't know how to get to the dive shops as they're miles away on the other side of the point and you're not allowed to take 2 stroke outboard motors into the park. Something to solve tomorrow.
