Ahoy from Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH!

I'm happy to report that we've pretty much made it to the end of out SW passage down Lake Erie and from now on we'll have a northerly course. Yeah! Of course, I should now expect northerly winds...Anyhow, we had a bouncy ride to Sandusky after waiting for a line of thunderstorms to pass through. Then we sailed for a few hours before the winds switched from the NE to the W. Oh well, at least we got some sailing in!

We arrived at the Cedar Point marina late in the afternoon and were assigned a slip on the furthest dock from the amusement park. As one reviewer on ActiveCaptain said, it provided a great view of the parking lot. We were the only boat on the docks and it was one of the most disgusting docks that we've ever been on as it was absolutely covered by seagull guano. After a discussion with the marina staff, which included them trying to charge us more for a larger dock, they moved us to a nice, clean dock right next to the park. This was much better and it didn't feel like we were banished to Siberia.

Cedar Point is known as the roller coaster capitol of the world. They have have 14 roller coasters, including the world's tallest at 420'. It's named the Dragster and is 2800' long. The ride lasts 17 seconds and accelerates you from 0 to 120 MPH in 3.7 seconds, taking you straight up to the top and then straight down (actually going past vertical) while twisting 360 degrees. WOW, what a ride! They also have a lot of smaller roller coasters and other rides, which is good.

It's been ages since I've been to an amusement park, but my inner child came out and I had a great time. Sue, who has an intense fear of heights, didn't quite share my enthusiasm, but I got her onto 3 roller coasters and other rides. They also have a water park where we spent 3 hours late in the afternoon. All in all we spent from 9 AM to 10:30 PM in the park and had a great time.

Our next port of call will be Kelley's Island, which is a short 11 mile hop to the north of here.

For the cruiser: If Cedar Point tries to put you on the S docks (which is where they put all of the sailboats and many of the transients), don't accept it. Try to get them to put you on you on the N docks as the dock that we were on was disgusting and is in the middle of nowhere. Dockage was $1.75/ft for the 40' docks and $1.95/ft for the 50' docks.
