Just a quick update to let you know what's going on. In a nut shell the boat isn't going anywhere for at a week+ while parts get shipped here.

First off, the engine starter was fried. That's what caused all of the smoke. When we opened it up lots of little melted pieces fell out. No way to either get a replacement in VE or to rebuild. Ordered a new one for *only* $675.

I decided that as long as there was a shipment coming over to have a new voltage regulator, 120 V AC compressor & key switch shipped here at the same time. Don, who own's a rigging shop, has a container coming here via boat and arranged to have all of the components ordered and placed in the container. I've been trading computer expertise to him for his help.

On the plus side, a new reverse osmosis membrane arrived for the water maker yesterday. That little 3 lb package only cost $97 to ship here via next day (it took 5).

Oh, and there's a canvas guy here who makes dinghy covers for $180. The sun does a real number on everything down here, so this should help extend the lifetime of the dinghy tubes. He does a great job for a price that couldn't even be touched in the US. It looks like he has 4+ guys working for him and probably makes 6+ a day. He's making a blue cover for BlueJacket's dinghy.

Also on the plus side there's a restaurant here called Jak's which has phenominal food for fantastic prices. Since there's no refrigeration onboard, most meals are eaten there. That's been enjoyable. It's hard to argue with beef tenderloin sishkabobs for $6.50.

And the people here are very nice. Been making lots of friends with other cruisers. Today it's in to the mall for tool shopping. Oh what an exciting life...
