Ahoy from Mystic, Connecticut!
Yesterday was a stunning day to explore Mystic, as we had perfect weather with crisp blue skies and temps in the 70s-80s. The day before wasn't any where as nice, as we awoke in Block Island to dense fog and the constant drip, drip, drip of the rigging dripping with condensation. Until I lived aboard a boat, I had never really experienced cold, damp fog like this before. Everything gets coated with water and feels damp and cold. Far from my favorite weather.
We needed to get moving to CT as severe thunderstorms were forecast for later in the day, so we set out at around 9 AM. The fog hadn't begun to let up and we had about 100 yards or less of visibility. Believe me, you pay close attention to the radar as there are lots of ferries and other traffic moving between the shore and Block Island. We only had a few well controlled close encounters and just before we entered the Mystic River, the fog lifted to about 1 mile visibility. I was thankful for that, as the Mystic River winds back and forth and is very shallow outside of the channel. The river is absolutely lined with marinas, so I would think that it would be easy to find transient dockage. Being a Brewer's customer, we get free dockage at other Brewer's marinas, so we pulled into the Brewer's Mystic.
Unfortunately on the way over here, I noted too much vibration on the prop shaft, so once again I spent the afternoon re-re-re-aligning the prop shaft with the engine. At this point I'm within .001" to .002" of an inch, so if this doesn't solve the vibration, the problem lies elsewhere. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Yesterday we took the dinghy on a tour of the Mystic River. What be beautiful area! This is a quintessential New England port town with wonderful houses and a consistent architecture. We spent a large part of the day at Mystic Seaport and very much enjoyed our visit.
Today we're supposed to move to Essex, CT, but there's a strong line of thunderstorms moving through the area. It looks like we should be able to leave once this line passes and make it to Essex before the next line rolls though.

For the cruiser:
You can anchor past the Mystic Seaport in about 8' MLW. There are lots of marinas offering dockage and we saw several offering $1/ft. Be sure to take your dinghy up the river as there's a very nice public dock in downtown. We had a good dinner at The Pita Spot, which server Mediterranean cuisine and is BYOB. It was about 3/4 of a mile from Brewers and was a very nice walk.
