Right now we're 99 miles from Key West and we should be in at around midnight. That shouldn't be a problem as we've been in there before and know the anchorage. For the most part it was an uneventful evening. Sue & I split the hours between 7 PM and 7 AM into 3 hour shifts. That breakdown works well for SSB contacts with other boats underway and weather faxes. Sue took the 7-10 PM shift and when I came on I found a large frontal zone stretching for 30+ miles in front of us with lots of lightening. Using the radar I was able to divert our path S of the storms. By the time that I turned the helm over to Sue at 1 AM the radar was clear of anything. It was quite the lightening show though!
The downside of my heading S was that it took us further away from the Gulf Stream. A boat which has been in front of us headed N and got into the Gulf Stream and has a 0.7 kt current with them where as we have a 0.5+ kt current against us. When I turned N to try to head towards the Gulf Stream I found that we were pushing into 2+ kts of current, so I quickly went back to my original course.
We're doing fine (other than our butts being sore from sitting on hard cushions (which will get replaced this summer with softer foam). Hope that all is well there!
