I just wanted to let everyone know that we arrived safely in Key West last night. We finally broke free of the counter current at around 9 AM yesterday and we even managed to sail for a while before the wind dropped to nothing. Then we motored on glassy seas. I can't complain as the trade winds blow out of the east and we were headed pretty much due east. We had a great dinner of grilled filet mignon, potatoes and a Greek salad.
Navigating through the Key West harbor at night is always fun. It's probably 6 miles from the sea buoy to where we anchored and there's lots of turns in the channel as well as other channels intersecting the main one. As a result there are lots and lots of lit buoys and figuring out which one is next can be challenging, even with a map sitting on a computer screen right in front of you. We managed without any problems, but I sure wouldn't have wanted to have tried it at night without a chart plotter.
Today we have to clear into Immigrations and Customs as well as registering the dinghy (after placing our life preservers, whistles, flashlight and flares into the dinghy). Then we have to check out flights home and relax for a day or two.
Anyhow, we're safe and sound and back in the USA.
