Ahoy from Isla Mujares, Mexico!

Isla Mujares is a small island just east of Cancun on the tip of the Yucatan. It's about 5 miles long and 1/2 of a mile wide. It's definitely a tourist mecca as ferry after ferry transports people from Cancun during the day. It has beautiful beaches and the streets are lined with shops and restaurants. There's 2 large marinas here as well as that all important well stocked grocery store. What more could a cruiser want?

We had a nice motor sail from Hut Point with light winds near the nose. There's a 2.5 kt current going north, so when we were in that we were flying! The good news for the return trip is that if you hang out near the shore, that there's much less current. The anchorage is easy to get in to. Don't follow Rauscher's advice to cut to the inside of the buoys!

We've enjoyed wandering around town, but our major purpose for being here is to wait for a weather window, which has arrived. We want SE to SW winds for the 330 mile sail to Key West. The winds are out of the SE right now at 15-20 kts, so we're about to clear out of Mexico and hoist the sails. We expect the trip to take about 48 hours. We're going to have almost 2 kts of Gulf Stream current going with us, so this should be a fast sail.

There are about 5 other boats who will be going at more or less the same time, and we have regular SSB radio contacts set up. No worries here. I'll report tomorrow morning.
